Special Strengths

Clear layout

As you will have noticed from the descriptions above, MAXqda uses a very clear screen layout consisting of up to four panes in the working window. Many users find this a very neat way of organising their work and the program also gives you easy ways to hide or expand the panes as you need.

Sophisticated Retrievals

Retrievals of coded text are quick and the results are easily seen in the Retrieved Segments pane. This can be modified in a number of ways. More than one code can be activated at once and then a variety of Boolean and proximity combined retrievals (or searches) can be done. The finds can be restricted to certain texts either by activating them specifically or by using variables to activate them. The very close integration of documents, codes, text and retrievals on screen encourages an approach to analysis that stays well grounded in the data.

Weighted coding

All codes can be given a weighting that can vary from 1 to 100. This can be used, for example, to indicate how certain you are that the coding is appropriate or to indicate the degree to which you think it applies to this passage. The weights can be used as an additional filter when you carry out retrievals.

Word list and concordance add on.

MAXdictio is an add on program that integrates with MAXqda to produce word lists and concordance information about the documents in your project. These can be useful as a way of getting to know your data and highlighting the use of certain phrases and terms.
