NVivo logo Memos in NVivo v.2

Symbols and Conventions

Memos

Writing memos is an essential part of developing your analytic understanding of the data and a way of building your theoretical reflections.

To create a memo about a code

  1. In in the Node Explorer, click the node you want memo, click DocLinks button (NVivo DocLinks button).
  2. A DocLinks dialog opens. click Link a New Memo button.
  3. A document browser window opens.
  4. Type in your memo and close.
  5. A new document with the name of the node and the suffix '-Memo' appears in the Project Documents list and in the documents Linked list. click Close.
  6. To read the memo click the node name, click DocLinks button
    (NVivo DocLinks button) and double click the memo name.

 

 

To create a memo about a passage in a document

  1. In the Document Explorer, click the document you want to memo.
  2. click DocLinks button (NVivo DocLinks button).
  3. A DocLinks dialog opens. click Link a New Memo button.
  4. A Document Browser window opens. Type in your memo and close.
  5. A new document with the name of the document and the suffix '-Memo' appears in the Project Documents list and in the documents Linked list. click Close.
  6. To read the memo click the document name, click DocLinks button
    (NVivo DocLinks button) and double click the memo name.

 

 

To create a memo about a document

  1. In the Document Explorer, click the document you want to memo. click Memo button in the Document Explorer window.
  2. Type in the memo, close and save.
  3. The document is now preceded by '!' to indicate it has a memo
  4. To read the memo, click the document name, click Memo button.
